Ring oscillator (RO) odometer is a golden reference-based mechanism to help end-users detect recycled devices with the assistance of original component manufacturers (OCMs). In this chapter, we present counterfeit threats comprehensively at first. Next, by focusing on the major counterfeit type, i.e., recycled devices, we present a hands-on experiment for detecting recycled devices using a lightweight RO-based odometer sensor.

Download chapter files

Chapter 3 Recycled Chip Detection using RO-based Odometer Recycled chips are those reclaimed from discarded boards and systems and sold as new.
